Because tattoos are permanent

The comedy/trainee moustache is back. I’ve been called a 70’s porn star, had comments about it not being Movember yet. It seems moustaches are not in fashion unless they’re attached to a goatee or full on beard.

It’s odd if you think about it. I’d have elicited much less comment if I’d permanently adorned myself with a tattoo or ruined my ears by opting for a stretched lobe. But the simple act of growing a (frankly pitiful amount of) facial hair on my top lip seems to be the subject of endless comment. Even the postman has looked askance at me in the last few days.

I’m not going to mount a serious defence of the moustache because I think moustaches are inherently funny. But I do wonder why people double take at them whilst ignoring much more permanent body alteration.
