I can’t wait for February

February has it’s issues and can be summed up like this:

  • it’s minus 3 a lot
  • it’s either raining or snowing mostly
  • it gets dark at 3pm
At the moment the final point there is February’s redeeming feature. I don’t mind the heat (or the humidity) we’ve got at the moment, the sunshines nice but this whole being light until gone 9pm is beginning to wear a bit thin because the toddler just wants to play. Last night while wifey was out with some chums I wanted to sort the kid seat on her bike, watch some Game of Thrones, and maybe shoot a video. Instead I caved in after 4 visits from the boy and Fifi complaining about the sheer amount of screaming from Danger. I tried unsucessfully to settle him with two stories and some milk but he wasn’t having any of it; he wanted to come downstairs and play. Now he’d got himself so upset that his tears had actually soaked his top but as soon as I picked him up he was all smiles and chatter. Little sod.
And over the next hour or so, I tried everything to get him to go to bed:

But to no avail. In fact, he even got quite creative in his naughtiness- while I was loading the dishwasher, he wandered off, and I had to go and find him. I found him standing next to a very disgruntled Fifi, whom he had just woken up by biffing her in the chops. Fortunately they hadn’t woken the boy.

By this point is was getting dark downstairs and I refused to turn the lights on as the patio door was still open. Do you want to go to bed now? I asked. A silhouetted head shook in the negatory. And so it continued. Don’t get me wrong, it is great fun playing with Danger on his own. He’s funny, cute and smart and he loves dancing but sometimes you’ve got other things to do and after a long day at work you just want to sit down for a minute in peace and quiet without being handed a plastic bucket.
