Review: LEGO Movie MetalBeard’s Duel 70807

Metalbeard

The boy has seen LEGO movie with one of his small chums and is consequently obsessed with building sets from the movie. Fortunately LEGO kindly sent us the MetalBeard’s Duel set and it didn’t take long for the boy to kick on with his building.

This set retails at £29.99 and as well as being one of the more affordable “big” sets, it’s also one of the most fun. The “duel” in the title gives away the fact you get two things that can battle with each other- a good sign that you can have some good roleplaying action. I’ll have to admit I’ve not seen the film yet, I’m waiting for the Blu Ray release, but everything I see about it makes me think it must be the most bonkers animated film ever.

Character wise, you get three mini figures, including a skeleton, but the star of the show is Metalbeard, a steampunk-esque robot figure that battles is out with a giant Micro Manager that’s also included. The boy took a pleasingly long time to make Metalbeard and it is a thing of beauty.

It’s survived a fall off the table (okay it was helped off by the two year old), so is well designed too. Given that there is likely to be a massive surge is these sets come the Blu Ray release in late July, it’s worth jumping on this particular bandwagon now if you haven’t already.
