Mother’s Day is on it’s way with Dr Oetker

When you’ve got little kids I always think it’s better to help the kids make presents for special occasions like Mother’s Day rather than buy them. Kids don’t know the value of money or stuff but something they’ve ham-fistedly but devotedly made for you. I have things sitting on my shelf at work that various offspring have fashioned for me with love if not artistic ability.

cakeStill, it’s always a good idea to try some baking with kids because I find completely trashing the kitchen is always offset by the provision of cake. Fifi has always loved making cakes and the other two are also rather keen when it comes to cooking.

To help all us hapless dads in the approach to Mother’s Day, Dr Oetker has teamed up with ex GBBO contestant Ian Cumming to produce Bake Mum’s Day, a recipe book packed full of easy recipes to make with the kids. That’s with the kids’ assistance, not the kids as an ingredient, just to clarify. We’ve even been asked to contribute a cooking tip for the cupcake recipe, so I asked Fifi and she duly obliged. If you want to know what our cooking tip is, you’ll have to download the recipe booklet, which you can do here.

Dr Oetker’s asked us to try out their recipe for Ian Cumming’s Flower Cupcakes. It was a change to use ready to roll icing but a challenge I think we rose to.

You’ll have to wait to see what they look like from us until Mother’s Day though, the one downside of having a wife who is a keen blogger is that I have to be a little bit savvy on what I shove on my blog in case I spoil the surprise!
